The Coronial Investigation and Inquest Process
The role of the Coroner

If you require the date and time for an Inquest or hearing that has been listed, this can be found on our Inquest timetable.

For requests for information relating to a closed case or requests for historic files or records we will aim to respond within 28 working days of receipt. 
When requesting such records, we will require from you:-

(1) As much information about the deceased as possible; their name, address at the time of death, date of birth, date of death and place of death will allow us to complete a comprehensive search. Along with any additional information you hold about the circumstances of their death.
(2) Your name, contact details and a copy of a photo ID such as a passport or driving licence.
(3) Written confirmation of your relationship with the deceased, and any supporting evidence i.e. marriage certificate, birth certificate.

For Press and Media enquiries, please ensure that all requests for remote attendance are in accordance with local procedure, and any requests for information are in-line with the requirements laid out in Chapter 8 of the Chief Coroner’s Guidance for Coroners on the Bench. Non-compliance may result in such requests being refused.
